Marcus Rashford has received particular praise from one Manchester City player following a 3-1 derby day loss for Manchester United in the Premier League.

It was Marcus Rashford who opened the scoring on Sunday afternoon with a stunning goal to give Manchester United a lead against Manchester City.

However, the second half saw Phil Foden (2) and Erling Haaland securing victory for Pep Guardiola’s men, with Erik ten Hag now sitting 11 points from the Champions League qualification spots.

Kyle Walker, who played the full tie, had particular praise for Marcus Rashford following the first-half goal.

“I don’t think we played badly,” the City skipper said to Sky Sports. “I said in the dressing room at half time, it’s not a bad performance, it’s sometimes you take your hat off to goals like that.

“I think Marcus has hit a goal that’s come off the crossbar and hit the back of the net. It was the same against Luton when they went on to score before half-time. Sometimes you have to take your hats off to these goals.

“Do I like conceding goals? No I don’t. Do I think we could have stopped the ball further up the pitch or put our bodies in front of the ball to not let him shoot? Sometimes things happen in football, now it’s about the reaction from the lads.”

United will next face Everton in the Premier League at Old Trafford, with the club now 11 points off the top four.
