Luke Shaw and Kobbie Mainoo have both shown absolute class with two England moments
Manchester United duo Luke Shaw and Kobbie Mainoo have reached the Euro 2024 final with England this summer.
They will face Spain in the final on Sunday and both United men will be aiming to start the clash.
Mainoo has been crucial since he came into the team at the beginning of the knockout stages, while Shaw has made valuable contributions off the bench in the last two games as he returns to full fitness.
However, it has been their attitude and sportsmanlike behaviour that has been massively highlighted in the last two games.
After winning against Switzerland on penalties, Shaw was spotted going straight over to the opposition players to console them while his teammates ran off to celebrate with penalty-winner Trent Alexander-Arnold.
“I’ve been in that situation before in the Euros final. I know how I felt, it was the feeling to go and console them,” he told England media.
“For me, because I’ve been in that situation, and it is not nice. It was more of a respect thing to go and say ‘well done and all the best’.”
Then, after helping secure England their place in a first-ever overseas final, Mainoo showed similar levels of sportsmanlike behaviour as he consoled Stefan de Vrij and the Netherlands team.
Mainoo’s maturity on and off the pitch has been extraordinary during his first season in the professional game and this was just another example of that.
The United pair will now prepare for the final, which takes place on Sunday evening.
Kick-off is at 20:00 BST, with the game being broadcast live on BBC One and the iPlayer, with commentary on BBC Radio 5 Live.
