Liverpool have made contact for a 2024 European Championship player who is currently waiting for Manchester United to call him.

Manchester United are in search of a new midfielder this summer, following a season under Erik ten Hag that exposed significant weaknesses in the centre of the pitch.

Casemiro is widely expected to depart in the coming months, and UtdDistrict understands that the club is also fully open to selling Scott McTominay to generate funds for new transfers.

Meanwhile, new co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe has stated that the club is currently evaluating the best options available across the market this summer, with multiple signings required despite a restricted budget.

“We’re doing what every other club is doing, which is looking at which are the holes in our squad, and where we want the holes, and what are the possibilities out there in the market for us,” Ratcliffe said in an interview released on Thursday morning.

Adrien Rabiot is a player who has been routinely linked with United across the last few seasons, with former football director John Murtough flying to Turin to meet with the player and his representatives last summer.

Although a transfer did not materialise in 2023, Rabiot has yet to sign a new contract with his club, Juventus. Sportitalia has reported that Liverpool have reached out to Rabiot, whose contract expires at the end of this month.

However, previous reports have explained that, with Rabiot refusing to sign a new deal with Juventus despite new manager Thiago Motta keen on his signature, the French star is waiting for Manchester United to contact him again.

So far, this contact has not been forthcoming, but with United looking for cheap options in the market, signing the 29-year-old may represent a good deal.

One consideration to make is that United pulled out of the transfer last summer due to high salary demands, and Rabiot will likely need to decrease his ideal wage packet to join Old Trafford.
