Manchester United are hopeful that Lisandro Martínez will return to Old Trafford after the international break, according to reports.

Lisandro Martínez has been out of action since the beginning of February following an unfortunate injury to his knee during Manchester United‘s 3-0 win over West Ham United at Old Trafford earlier this year.

It was the third long-term injury that the Argentine international has suffered in the last 12 months after two surgeries on his foot kept him out for several months in 2023.

Martínez has missed a total of 44 games through injury since he signed for the club in 2022 – however, it is hard to fault him for this as the injuries have been a result of heavy external impacts and tackles rather than any internal problem.

According to Sky Sports News, Manchester United are now hopeful that Martínez will be able to play “some part” of the upcoming fixture against Brentford after the international break.

Martínez has been training with the Argentina national squad for the last week on international duty but will not play in any of their upcoming fixtures.

United will only know for sure if Martínez will be able to play once the centre-back returns to Carrington, but they are hopeful.

Mason Mount also recovered from his four-month problem to come on against Liverpool in the FA Cup quarter-final and is expected to be fully fit for the upcoming game against Brentford at 20:00 GMT on Saturday.
