Lisandro Martinez injury update as Man United suffer transfer market blow
Lisandro Martinez has been unavailable for Manchester United with a foot injury since late September.
Martinez, 25, was a key player for Erik ten Hag during his first season in charge at the club but suffered a metatarsal injury in the late stages of the season against Sevilla in the Europa League.
The defender recovered in time to partake in United’s pre-season tour and started the season with The Reds. However, it wasn’t long until he received a major setback when he suffered the same injury again.
Ten Hag has recently claimed that the defender will not return until after Christmas, and Fabrizio Romano has now claimed that the injury is “not a normal problem“.
The transfer expert added that it has been a big setback for the club, so staff are being very careful with the Argentine.
His recovery is going well, and he is doing well, but he is not ready yet, and the club won’t force anything following the reoccurrence of his original injury.
Ten Hag’s side have struggled this term and most recently lost 1-0 at Newcastle United, where the scoreline did not truly represent the dreadful performance from the Old Trafford side.
Whilst the defensive performance has been poor, it has been the attacking players who have truly been unable to inspire so far this season. The likes of Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and Antony have been poor.
Rasmus Hojlund has shown promise since joining the club, particularly in the Champions League, but is still without a Premier League goal and clearly looks like he needs help up front.
That has led to United aiming to complete a transfer for another centre-forward to support the 20-year-old, and Serhou Guirassy from Bundesliga side Stuttgart has emerged as an option that is being considered.
The 27-year-old, who has scored 17 goals so far this season, has a £15 million release clause that activates in January and is said to be ‘flattered’ by the interest from The Reds.
However, the latest information from German transfer guru Christian Falk states that Newcastle United ramping up their interest in a bid to beat Ten Hag’s side to Guirassy’s signature.
It is less than a month until the January transfer window opens, and United will certainly be looking to strengthen their side, but Newcastle are also an attractive outfit and could win the battle for Guirassy.
