Liam Delap has been shining in his debut season in the Premier League for Ipswich Town and faces Manchester United next.

Ruben Amorim’s tenure as Manchester United head coach began with a 1-1 draw against Ipswich Town at Portman Road and he faces them once again this week.

Since that initial game, it has been a tough season for the Reds, with just 10 wins in Amorim’s first 22 games as head coach.

United weakened their squad in January, loaning out Tyrell Malacia, Antony, and Marcus Rashford, while only adding one major signing in Patrick Dorgu.

Injuries to Lisandro Martínez and Amad further disrupted the team, leaving Amorim struggling to turn things around.

United sit 13 points above the relegation zone, having won just once in their last five league games. Meanwhile, Ipswich will see this match as a key chance to boost their survival hopes as they sit 18th in the table.

United are interested in Delap transfer

Liam Delap joined Ipswich Town in the latest summer transfer window from Manchester City for around £20 million.

The 22-year-old has taken to the Premier League like a duck to water, already having scored 10 goals in a struggling team.

United, meanwhile, are having extreme struggles in the final third and looking to sign a striker in the summer window to help Amorim’s squad.

It has been claimed that Victor Osimhen is the ideal target for the Reds but a deal for the Nigerian could be complicated for a variety of reasons, including his wage demands.

Reports have suggested that Delap is the back-up option United are considering ahead of the summer window, with those at Old Trafford being impressed by the young forward.

United’s technical director, Jason Wilcox, watched Delap’s progression first-hand at City when he was the Academy Director at United’s rivals.

Laurie Whitwell of The Athletic recently claimed that United would be able to afford a deal for Delap in the summer if his current side are relegated to the Championship, which looks extremely likely.

Delap makes honest admission ahead of United audition

Delap will start up front for Ipswich at Old Trafford on Wednesday night and it could be viewed as a potential audition ahead of a summer transfer.

The young striker has previously been described as a “monster” by his teammates at Ipswich and United will be well-aware of the threat he possesses.

However, despite all of the noise around his name, the England youth international is determined to keep himself focused on the job at hand and not get distracted by transfer noise.

“I don’t really look at things like that,” he told the media when recently asked about transfer rumours. “So, yes, I’m just focused on Ipswich.”

He added: “We [him and Omari Hutchinson] are lucky to be playing in the Premier League. I think we’ve got a great opportunity here at Ipswich and we’re just trying to show our ability week in, week out, that’s a big plus for me.”
