Jean-Clair Todibo’s stance on future as Man United ‘highly unlikely’ to sign due to UEFA rules
OGC Nice defender Jean-Clair Todibo is ‘highly unlikely’ to join Manchester United due to UEFA rules in place.
Todibo, 24, has been regularly linked to United in recent transfer windows and even more so since Sir Jim Ratcliffe took charge at Old Trafford.
However, it has recently been reported that a deal between the two INEOS-led teams is incredibly unlikely due to new UEFA rules.
UEFA have cracked down on multi-club ownership, meaning that teams who have qualified for the same competitions are also barred from doing transfer deals with each other.
United and Nice are both expected to participate in next season’s Europa League campaign, so a move for Todibo would involve severe complications.
Ratcliffe has confirmed that Todibo was ‘really interested’ in joining United, and the co-owner at Old Trafford believes it is unfair that they cannot make that deal happen.
Speaking recently to The Telegraph, Todibo explained that he has had discussions over his future and outlined his ambitions.
“Honestly I don’t want to talk about [my future] because of my respect for the fans here and the club also, but we had a little discussion, for sure,” he admitted.
“My ambition is to play in the best competitions in the world and try to be the best version of me. Try to be the best defender, for sure, that I can be.”
On the topic, Ratcliffe said: “We’ve got a player in Nice who was really interested in joining Manchester United, and I think he probably has the capability of being in the Manchester United squad.
“They’ve said we can sell him to another Premiership club, but we can’t sell him to Manchester United, which is unfair. really. I don’t see what that achieves.”
