Jamie Carragher admits Manchester United star is starting to “really impress” him
Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has admitted that one Manchester United star is starting to “really impress” him at Old Trafford.
Manchester United‘s start to the season has been relatively poor. The club sit 12th in the Premier League table while drawing their opening two Europa League games.
The club have suffered multiple defeats at home to the likes of Liverpool at Tottenham, while away performances have not fared much better. A loss against Brighton and draws with Crystal Palace and Aston Villa further compound their league position.

A great 2-1 win over Brentford on the weekend has helped rekindle optimism in the side, although they must use this win as a stepping stone to more consistent performances.
However, Erik ten Hag’s men have suffered from key injuries so far this campaign. Left-backs Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia have yet to feature, while key player Mason Mount has already missed six games.
Højlund is impressing
The club’s most significant injury, though, has been that of Rasmus Højlund. The Danish international and club’s first-choice striker has just returned from a hamstring problem he sustained in pre-season, and the club already looks much better with him on the pitch.
Højlund has started the club’s last three ties and scored in both, netting the winner against Brentford, and former Liverpool centre-back Jamie Carragher has now admitted that he is starting to be impressed by the 21-year-old.
“Højlund, I think he’s starting to look a player. I was really impressed with him in Porto a couple of weeks ago, he put a real shift in,” he said on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football segment.
“There’s real talent in the front three, but the man who gets the winning goal, I think he’s starting to look a player.”
An attacking trio
Against Brentford, United started a front three of Alejandro Garnahco on the left, Højlund up front, and Marcus Rashford on the right.
It was the most cohesive front three the club have seen so far this season, with all three being involved in the goals on the day.
Talking more generally about the Red Devils’ front three, Carragher added: “We talk about Marcus Rashford being better suited on the left, but he played on the right [against Brentford], and I think it’s one of his best games we’ve seen.
“Garnacho on the left side scores a great goal. I think the combination of that front three is maybe something that can keep them going.”
