Inter Milan chiefs have broken their silence on the potential exit of goalkeeper Andre Onana as Manchester United look to prepare their opening bid for the shot-stopper.

Onana, 27, is at the top of United’s list to replace David de Gea, who’s contract at the club has now expired, however, in-person talks are expected soon with the Spaniard to come to a full conclusion.

Erik ten Hag values the ball playing attributes of a no.1 and Onana has that in abundance. The pair previously worked together at Ajax and there could be a reunion in Manchester very soon.

However, despite United’s interest in the Cameroon goalkeeper, Inter Milan’s CEO Beppe Marotta has explained that an official bid is yet to come in for Onana from the English club.

“Man United confirmed to us that they’re interested in André Onana,” he said, as reported on Friday evening. “We are waiting for an official proposal in the next days, then we will decide how to react right after.

“Our director Piero Ausilio is working on it but there’s still no official bid from United at this stage.”

However, following reports from Italy have suggested that it is a matter of time until United pull the trigger and submit an offer for the player.

Alfredo Pedulla has reported that United are preparing their first bid for Andre Onana, which will be worth €45 million plus an additional €5-6 million in add-ons. Inter are instead asking for a base fee of €50 million with achievable add-ons on top but the deal can be negotiated.

This was then followed up with information from Gianluca Di Marzio, adding that negotiations between the two clubs are ‘proceeding quickly’ and United’s opening offer is expected. He supported the idea that Inter would accept €50 million plus add-ons.

With clarity on De Gea’s situation likely to come in the next days, this deal could accelerate following that. Ten Hag will hope he’s able to fly out on United’s pre-season tour with both Onana and Mason Mount.

Mount has agreed personal terms with the Reds and Chelsea have agreed a deal with United to sell their midfielder for £55 million plus an extra £5 million in silverware-related add-ons.
