INEOS urged to be “ruthless” and sell Man United star this summer, and they are open to offers
Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his INEOS-led group at Manchester United have been urged to be “ruthless” by selling one Manchester United player this summer.
The Reds have signed two players so far this summer in Leny Yoro and Joshua Zirkzee but they must focus on outgoings in the coming weeks.
Yoro has addressed an important hole in the squad following Raphaël Varane’s exit but the club still could be looking to improve in central defence.
Victor Lindelöf and Harry Maguire are both reportedly players that INEOS would be open to selling in the coming months.
Former United striker Dwight Yorke believes that Maguire’s time at the club has passed and that he needs to be sold this summer.
“Harry Maguire could sit out the last year of his contract and know he’s going to play at some point due to injuries, but United really need to be ruthless and get rid of him,” he told Premier League Betting, as cited by Mail Sport.
“They have Lisandro Martinez, Victor Lindelof and maybe Leny Yoro, but Harry Maguire is in the position that he doesn’t have to go anywhere if he doesn’t want to.
“The opportunity has passed to get rid of him because he so desperately wanted to be at Euro 2024, and he would have done anything to play.
“That was the time to move him so he could get regular football. So that opportunity passed, and he’s still there.”
While Yorke suggests that the best time to sell the defender has been and gone, the club are still reportedly open to offers for the 31-year-old.
Ten Hag still wants Matthijs de Ligt in his squad, but departures will be necessary for that signing to happen.
