“I don’t see…” – Manchester United suffer transfer blow for “dynamic” star, he could join Premier League rivals

Manchester United look set to miss out on a “dynamic” transfer target, as he could join another Premier League side and snub Rúben Amorim.

Manchester United’s 4-2 victory over Brighton and Hove Albion makes it three wins on the bounce for Rúben Amorim’s side, for the first time since he joined the club from Sporting CP in November 2024, although improvements can still be made.

New signings Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo were among the standouts on Saturday evening – the former Wolverhampton Wanderers attacker was awarded player of the match – showing the huge difference that new additions can make at Old Trafford.

Jason Wilcox will be looking for more signings in the January transfer window, as Amorim still needs more recruitment to maximise his system at United. Despite Casemiro’s improved performances, a new midfielder will be the main target going into the Winter window.

In the summer transfer window, Carlos Baleba appeared to be the first-choice target in the engine room, but his poor performances in the Premier League this season seem to have led United to pivot and focus on other options.

Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton and Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson are just two of the names that have been mentioned, although United may be forced into a decision soon as another target looks set to snub the Red Devils.

Bellingham to stay clear of United

Jobe Bellingham moved to Borussia Dortmund in the summer after strong links to Old Trafford throughout the window. Despite his move, the younger Bellingham brother looks set to leave Dortmund in January due to a lack of playing time.

The 20-year-old has played just 217 minutes in the Bundesliga this season, with another 178 in the Champions League. With Bellingham reportedly looking for a move, United appeared to be monitoring the situation in case the former Sunderland midfielder became available.

However, United now look set to miss out on Bellingham with Sunderland looking to re-sign their former star on loan in January. Former Everton chief executive Kieth Wyness told Football Insider: “I don’t see Bellingham to Man United going anywhere.

“The only thing that I’m hearing that could possibly happen is a loan back to Sunderland. That might make the most sense of all. It’s where he’d feel comfortable and try and get things back on track. He’s not had the best start to the season, and I think that would make sense for him and for Sunderland.”

Palace could enter the Bellingham race and leave Wharton open

Another report from Football Insider has said that Crystal Palace could enter the race for Bellingham in the January transfer window, adding to their midfield options.

If Palace do sign the “dynamic” Dortmund midfielder, Adam Wharton could be free to look for a move away from the club, as Oliver Glasner may be happy to call Bellingham his replacement, despite their differing profiles.

United could be free to make a run for Wharton in January, allowing the 21-year-old to bed into the squad before he becomes a recognised starter next season.

Wharton could spend six months learning from Casemiro, while United could move on Manuel Ugarte, who is yet to prove his worth in a red shirt after signing from PSG under Erik ten Hag.
