Antony could be set for a shock reunion with one Manchester United star in January, as the player may demand a move away from the club.
Manchester United sold Antony in the summer transfer window to Real Betis after a long spell away from the first-team squad. The Brazilian was named in Rúben Amorim’s “Bomb Squad” along with Alejandro Garnacho, Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Tyrell Malacia.
The long transfer saga finally came to a close at the end of August, but United could still play a part in Antony’s future due to the unique way his sale was structured.
It is believed that United still own a percentage of the former Ajax winger’s rights, meaning that they will benefit from any future sale if Real Betis choose to move on the left-footer before buying him in full.
Another way United could affect Antony’s future is with a current player joining him in Seville. Due to a poor start to the season, several of Amorim’s first-team squad could look to demand a move away from Old Trafford in January.
Zirkzee could be set for Betis move
Joshua Zirkzee has been forced to the bench this season – even after Rasmus Hojlund’s departure – and is yet to start a game due to Benjamin Šeško and Matheus Cunha. Recent reports have indicated that he could look for a move in January, and Fichajes have suggested Betis could be an option.
The Spanish outlet claimed that Betis are “closely monitoring” the “frustrated” striker and are looking to strengthen their attacking options, with Zirkzee being a real possibility.
Antony’s side would look to sign Zirkzee on loan rather than on a permanent deal, leaving scope for the Dutchman to return to United at the start of next season.
The report states that Betis have already held talks with Zirkzee’s camp and are looking to build on their past connections with United. However, the relationship may have soured due to Antony’s transfer saga.
Loan move could be ideal for all parties
Zirkzee is well-liked in the United fan base – despite his struggles last season – and his versatility provides Amorim with an option to rotate the frontline mid-game.
Without European football, Zirkzee won’t get enough minutes in the Premier League to showcase his natural talent and won’t be selected for the World Cup squad at the end of the season.

Zirkzee would be an ideal squad member when United return to the Champions League or Europa League next season, but he won’t want to play as a backup all season.
Therefore, sending him on loan to Betis would help United hold on to the former Bayern Munich youngster, while keeping him happy until the end of the season.
