Forest manager tells Erik ten Hag how to replace Rasmus Højlund with “very good” solution
Manchester United return to FA Cup duties on Wednesday evening as they travel to face Nottingham Forest in the competition.
After an unbeaten start to 2024, Manchester United fell to their first defeat of the calendar year as they lost 2-1 to Fulham at Old Trafford in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.
It was a fixture that held Rasmus Højlund as an absence through injury, with the club struggling to find the back of the net without their top scorer this season – and with Højlund injured for at least another two weeks, Erik ten Hag needs to find a short-term replacement.

United have already played Forest at the City Ground this campaign, in a 2-1 loss where Marcus Rashford scored – and Forest boss Nuno Espirito Santo has explained who he thinks the solution to Ten Hag’s problem is.
“They are still a very good team, a very good squad,” Nuno told club media. “This is what we have to think. We are going to face a tough opponent on Wednesday night.
“They have very good solutions, [Marcus] Rashford… they have very good attacking players that can make the position.”
United have won two FA Cup fixtures so far this season, defeating Wigan Athletic 2-0 before travelling to Newport County to secure a 4-2 win.
The FA Cup represents United’s last chance of silverware after being knocked out of Europe and the Carabao Cup, with the Premier League top spot too far away to think of.
