Facundo Pellistri’s agents set for meeting with Man United chiefs ahead of potential January loan
Facundo Pellistri had to wait over two years for his Manchester United debut and could soon be heading back on loan to search for more minutes this season.
It was an impressive cameo against Charlton Athletic from the 20-year-old, who assisted Marcus Rashford’s first before making a crucial run to create space for the Englishman’s second.
He was only on the pitch for around 10 minutes as United progressed to the Carabao Cup semi-final but he left a positive impression on the fans and his manager Erik ten Hag.
“I see a future in him,” said Ten Hag. “You see he’s progressing. Against Everton (behind closed doors in training) I was happy with his performance, and I was happy with him in the World Cup. Well done, better, keep going.”
However, with that being the only first-team club minutes that the Uruguayan has played this season and the fact that Jadon Sancho will soon be returning to the side, Pellistri could be set for a loan deal this month.
The Athletic have reported that the winger’s agent this week to discuss a potential loan in order to increase his playing time as United are currently unsure of the correct course of action.
It was added that Watford are interested in the player, among others, however, he’s not thought to be interested in a move to the Championship.
He has previously been on loan in La Liga and has loan interest from different Spanish clubs, including Valencia.
Speaking to MUTV after his long-awaited United debut, the youngster said: “I have been waiting for this moment for a long time, and it came. Of course, I’m really happy because of the moment and the way it was, and that is incredible.
“I had the luck to be at Old Trafford in other squads but unluckily I didn’t enter the pitch to play. I looked at the crowd and all the time I thought ‘when will my moment arrive to play?’ And today was the day and I enjoyed it a lot.
“I am very happy, and I want to help my team-mates to achieve all the trophies that we have in mind and to win every game we have because this is an incredible club and very big.”
