Fabrizio Romano reveals reason behind Willy Kambwala’s shock transfer from Manchester United
Fabrizio Romano has explained why Manchester United have sanctioned the shock transfer of Willy Kambwala to Villareal CF this summer.
In an unexpected turn of events, Manchester United is set to sell Willy Kambwala this summer as INEOS looks to raise as much capital as possible for summer incomings.
Erik ten Hag is hoping to acquire multiple centre-backs this summer as the club works on deals for Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt, and Jarrad Branthwaite. Space must be made in order for these incomings to be secured.

When the news broke that the 19-year-old academy graduate would be leaving the club in search of fresh lands, it shocked many. However, the reasoning behind why Kambwala will leave for Villareal CF has been explained.
When questioned about the move, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano explained that the club was happy to sanction a deal because Kambwala refused to sign a new contract. His current deal with the club expires in 2025.
“Willy Kambuala will fly to Spain and will undergo medical tests as a new Villareal player from Manchester United,” Romano started during a live stream on PlayBack.
“The deal is done, the game will go as confirmed, Man United will receive 10 million euros (£8.6 million) and also included, sell on close, buy back close.
“Why are Man United selling Willy Kambuala? Because Willy didn’t agree on a new contract with United and he had one year left on his contract, the only way was basically to sell the player to avoid the possibility of losing him for free starting from January.
“So the agreement is done, the buyback close is also there, and for Man United, it’s considered a very good deal also for the player obviously to have the opportunity to develop in a new league and with the possibility to have more minutes compared to what Manchester United were going to offer him for the new season with Man United busy with Matthijs de Ligt and with Man United intention to sign two centre-backs.”
We wish Kambwala all the best in his next adventure.
