Fabrizio Romano has delivered a surprising update on Manchester United’s transfer pursuit of Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Manuel Ugarte.

The Reds have been linked to various names this summer as INEOS look to bolster Erik ten Hag’s squad ahead of next season.

Manuel Ugarte has emerged as an option in recent days after reports claimed United have registered interest in the midfielder. It has also been reported that the Reds have had an opening offer for the 23-year-old rejected.

Fabrizio Romano has clarified that no bid has yet come in for Ugarte and has also explained that United’s contacts with the French club were not entirely centred around the Uruguayan.

The Italian journalist was unable to reveal who else was on the agenda during the meeting between the two clubs with a ‘very good’ relationship.

“I spoke yesterday about Manchester United and PSG having contacts to discuss Manuel Ugarte and other players,” he told his Daily Briefing.

“Ugarte has chances to leave PSG this summer, so let’s see what happens with that one, but I don’t have any guaranteed info on the other players discussed, so at the moment, I’m not in the position to mention specific names.

“All I can say for now is that I’m told they discussed several opportunities, including Ugarte, who’s appreciated by Man United. No bid has been sent yet, but interest is genuine.

“The relationship between the two clubs is very good, so let’s see what happens with Ugarte and if any other players get involved, too.”

United fans will be eagerly awaiting the first deal of the summer, with the club still yet to confirm a signing.
