Fabrizio Romano delivers transfer blow for Manchester United after FA Cup win vs Arsenal
Manchester United beat Arsenal in the FA Cup third-round on Sunday but the club still have to act in the January transfer window.
Ruben Amorim’s side produced a resolute display with 10 men for more than 70 minutes and managed to beat Arsenal on penalties to progress to the next round of the FA Cup.
It was a performance which displayed exactly what United supporters want to see from the team – grit, fight, determination – following on from the positive game against Liverpool.
Despite this, there is no question that United still need to take action in the January transfer window and find a way to make some signings for Amorim.
There are several positions which need addressing, most importantly at left wingback, striker and attacking midfield.
Romano update on Kvaratskhelia to United rumours
Marcus Rashford is set to depart United on loan this month after admitting to being open to a new challenge and various clubs have been linked with the player.
Recent rumours suggested that United would try and use Rashford in a potential swap deal for Napoli star Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.
Kvaratskhelia would be a tremendous option for the left-sided number 10 in Amorim’s team, however, it seems like a move to Paris Saint-Germain is the most likely for him.
Fabrizio Romano has clarified that no talks have taken place between United and Napoli or the player. The Italian transfer expert does not see it as a ‘realistic’ deal.
“So, Manchester United have been linked with a swap deal including Marcus Rashford for Kvaratskhelia, but talks have never taken place for this so far,” Romao wrote on GiveMeSport.
“It’s not believed to be something concrete or a realistic scenario, also because Napoli are looking at different options and not at Rashford.”
United should focus on other positions
While a left-sided no.10 would be brilliant to get, you would think that a wingback and/or striker would be a higher priority if funds can be found this month.
Diogo Dalot is not a natural wingback while Luke Shaw is unable to prove his fitness to play in the position.
Rasmus Højlund and Joshua Zirkzee have also both struggled up front as the team struggle to score goals.
United also need to be realistic in what they can achieve in the transfer market right now. Players like Kvaratskhelia are going to be out of reach and the club need to act smarter.
They have a couple more weeks in this window but need to figure out their plan of action soon because Amorim needs the help in order for United to continue taking positive steps.
