Fabrizio Romano has now confirmed that Manchester United will push ahead with a new contract offer for Kobbie Mainoo following the extension of Amad Diallo.

Amid weeks of turmoil and poor performances following Rúben Amorim’s appointment as Manchester United’s head coach, Amad has emerged as a shining light at Old Trafford.

Alongside Manuel Ugarte and Noussair Mazraoui, Amad has been one of the club’s standout performers, contributing to eight goals in 12 appearances under the Portuguese manager.

While many players have struggled to adapt to Amorim’s 3-4-3 system, Amad has flourished. Initially excelling as a right wing-back, he has since thrived in a wide attacking role on the same flank, showcasing his versatility and skill.

Amad’s journey at United has been far from smooth. After multiple loan spells and a lengthy recovery from a knee injury, the Ivorian found himself sidelined under Erik ten Hag, who scarcely used him until the final stages of the 2023/24 season.

However, with the Dutchman’s departure, Amad’s fortunes have dramatically improved. Now a key figure in Amorim’s setup, he is regarded as one of only two untouchable players at the club and signed a new deal until 2030 worth around £100,000 a week.

Latest on Mainoo’s new contract following Amad extension

Following United’s completion of Amad’s contract extension, they have now changed their priorities and will focus on securing midfielder Kobbie Mainoo down to a new deal.

Reports earlier this week broke that Mainoo was at risk of being sold due to profit and sustainability regulations. However, it was later confirmed that this was only a decision the club would take if they felt there was no other option.

It was stated that United and Mainoo were at a stalemate surrounding talks of a new long-term deal, with the 19-year-old unhappy with the current offer.

However, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has now revealed that following United’s decision to hand Amad a new deal, they will push ahead to secure the future of Mainoo, too.

“At the moment at Manchester United, as Rúben Amorim said in his press conference but is also the club feeling and management feeling, they want to insist on contract negotiations with Kobbie Mainoo,” Romano explained on his YouTube channel.

“After extending the contract of Amad to 2030, now Man United will try to push also with Kobbie Mainoo.

“Amorim said in his press conference that ‘we want to keep our best players, we want to keep our academy players, I am very happy with Kobbie and how he is developing’, but now for Man United it is going to be time to try and reach an agreement with with the player.

“Remember, there were changes with… the situation of Kobbie Mainoo because there were changes in Manchester United’s board, which means sometimes you have to restart some points in the conversation, but Man United are now working on the new contract of Kobbie Mainoo.”

Mainoo is the cornerstone of Amorim’s United project

Tying Mainoo down to a five-year contract is essential to Amorim’s long-term vision at United.

Mainoo has shown himself to be a great partner to Manuel Ugarte in the middle of the park and alongside Amad, Leny Yoro, and Alejandro Garnacho, he is a cornerstone to Amorim’s tenure.

At 19 years old, he is already an established England international and has played over 50 times for one of the biggest clubs in the world during one of their most difficult periods to date, and has shone through.

Other reports have stated that United and Mainoo are expected to eventually reach an agreement that will see the young midfielder earn around £150,000 a week.
