Erik ten Hag predicts Man United star “will fly” after key Southampton moment
Erik ten Hag has predicted that one Manchester United star “will fly” after a key moment during the 3-0 win over Southampton.
Erik ten Hag made two changes to his Manchester United lineup for their Premier League clash against Southampton. Amad Diallo and Christian Eriksen replaced Alejandro Garnacho and Casemiro.
Southampton started brightly, putting United under pressure and forcing several key saves from André Onana.
The game’s first significant moment occurred when Diogo Dalot fouled Tyler Dibling in the box, but Onana kept out the penalty.
Shortly after, Matthijs de Ligt headed in a cross from Bruno Fernandes to score his first goal for the club, and Marcus Rashford quickly added a second with a low shot past Aaron Ramsdale.
United maintained control in the second half, and despite Joshua Zirkzee missing a chance, substitute Garnacho sealed the 3-0 victory with a late goal.
Ten Hag’s prediction for Rashford
Speaking ahead of the game to TNT Sports, the United boss was asked about the struggles Rashford has had in front of goal in recent months.
Ten Hag explained his popular belief that once a forward gets their first goal, they will begin to get their rhythm, and he thought Rashford would “fly” once he found the net.
“All strikers want to score, and from my experience, once a striker starts scoring, they are going to fly,” the manager said.
Following the game, in which Rashford scored a brilliant effort from outside the box, Ten Hag reiterated his stance on the winger.
He added: “To get on to the score sheet for any striker is so important in a season, then you build momentum, you build belief and that will turn into more goals.
“He has already scored so many goals for Manchester United, and at his age, the number of goals is amazing. I’m sure there will be many more.”
