Two Southampton players break unwanted records during 3-0 defeat vs Man United
Two Southampton players broke some unwanted records during their 3-0 defeat to Manchester United on Saturday afternoon.
Erik ten Hag made two changes to Manchester United’s starting XI for their Premier League match against Southampton. Amad Diallo and Christian Eriksen replaced Alejandro Garnacho and Casemiro.
Southampton started strongly, applying pressure and forcing André Onana into several vital saves.
The first key moment came when Diogo Dalot fouled Tyler Dibling in the box, but Onana saved the resulting penalty.
Soon after, Matthijs de Ligt headed in a Bruno Fernandes cross for his first goal for United, followed by Marcus Rashford adding a second with a low strike past Aaron Ramsdale.
In the second half, United remained in control, and although Joshua Zirkzee missed a chance, substitute Garnacho secured a 3-0 victory with a late goal.
Two unwanted Southampton records broken
While it was a great day at the office for the visitors, two Southampton players broke unwanted records during the St Mary’s Stadium encounter.
Brereton Diaz is still searching for his first victory in the Premier League following the 3-0 defeat against United.
The Chilean international now holds the record for the most Premier League appearances without a win. He has now made 18 appearances in England’s top flight without victory.
Meanwhile, despite making several solid stops between the sticks, Aaron Ramsdale conceded three times against the Reds to extend his rotten luck when playing the Old Trafford outfit.
Across stints for Sheffield United, Bournemouth, Arsenal and now Southampton, the English shot-stopper has conceded more Premier League goals against United than against any other club.
That’s according to statistic experts Squawka, who added that the goalie has failed to keep a clean sheet in each of his last nine games against the Reds.
