Erik ten Hag has made a stern point in relation to the nature of Manchester United’s celebrations after their Carabao Cup victory.

Manchester United defeated Newcastle United 2-0 in what was described as an “exciting” Carabao Cup victory by Pep Guardiola.

Casemiro and Marcus Rashford were on the scoresheet as Erik ten Hag claimed his first trophy as Manchester United manager.

Speaking ahead of the side’s FA Cup clash against West Ham United on Wednesday evening, Erik ten Hag has repeated that the victory and subsequent celebrations were about the team and collective effort.

“Let’s make myself clear: we didn’t win with 11 players, we did win with a squad,” he told the press on Tuesday afternoon.

“I think the squad the whole season is so important and every time players come in if it’s for a whole game, minutes, a couple of games, also during games we can change the dynamics, we do it with many more than 11 players.”

He continued: “I think everyone was involved, everyone was happy, and everyone had the idea we did it collectively, not individual or one, two three players did this. It was the performance of the whole team, the whole squad.”

Ten Hag was also adamant in making a point that although it is good to celebrate the victory, they also need to keep their focus on what’s ahead.

“No,” was his simple reply when asked if there were going to be any extra celebrations. “Nothing beyond, eh? Get back to work.”

Manchester United will face West Ham in the fifth round of the FA Cup as they aim to continue their brilliant form and hunt for more domestic silverware.

Ten Hag confirmed that two players were a doubt for the fixture, also stating that Anthony Martial would not be available for the Old Trafford tie.

“Anthony Martial is not available. Luke Shaw and Fred are questions for tomorrow.”
