As Manchester United secured their place in the FA Cup quarter-finals with a last-minute winner, Erik ten Hag gave his opinion on what was a challenging match for his side.

Casemiro’s pivotal 89th-minute header, orchestrated by a Bruno Fernandes free kick, paves the way for an eagerly anticipated encounter with Liverpool in the upcoming FA Cup quarter-finals in March.

Following a 2-1 loss to Fulham in the Premier League last weekend, this win holds significant importance for Erik ten Hag, as he continues to grapple with a challenging second season at the helm of Manchester United.

And, despite crediting his players for a tenacious performance, he pointed out two flaws that concern him going forward.

The Dutch manager said: “It’s the best time to score at the end. On Saturday, we felt a defeat in stoppage time [against Fulham].

“We scored at the right moment. In the second half, after five or six minutes, we found the game. Then, we were continually in their half and took control of the game.

“Before that, we had to make some changes. The routines fell away. We had chances, but we allowed them to create some chances. We should avoid that.

“Every win is important. We take it 24 hours, and then we move on.”

Should United hope to defeat treble-winners Manchester City in this weekend’s Manchester Derby, then finding a way to stick to the routines practised in training is crucial.

Additionally, the Red Devils cannot allow City to create the chances that Nottingham Forest were able to tonight as, with perhaps the best strike force in the world, they will only need a few opportunities to punish United at the Etihad once again.
