Erik ten Hag explains what impressed him the most vs Barnsley, praises three Man Utd stars
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has explained how his attackers impressed him against Barnsley.
Spectacularly defeating League One side Barnsley on Tuesday night, United dominated their opponents winning 7-0, securing their place in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup.
However, despite scoring on seven occasions, it was one action in particular that earned the respect of Ten Hag.
In the first half with United only leading by one goal, Antony would win the Red Devils a penalty, a penalty himself would convert.
The decision to have Antony take the penalty was made by Marcus Rashford, with the English attacker offering his fellow forward the chance to get on the scoresheet.
Speaking to club media following United’s Carabao Cup victory, Ten Hag praised the unselfishness of his attackers.
“I think they are very ambitious,” Ten Hag stated when speaking about his attackers. “Very hungry, but you can see they give each other the ball. They want to also give assists and also give each other the opportunity to score a goal.
“Like the penalty, when Antony needs some confidence, then Rashy gives the pen to Antony, which is good in a team that they are with each other, they are together.
“It seems how this team is together. Antony has some difficulties because he has to fight for his place and then the players decided themselves they want to encourage him and give him some confidence.
“They want to show you are also part of this. We are together. It’s a long season and we need everyone.”
Scoring ten goals in their last two games, Manchester United have been on a hot streak over the last week.
The Red Devils will next travel down south to London, with United facing Crystal Palace in Premier League action on Saturday afternoon.
