Erik ten Hag has confirmed that it is “too soon” for Mason Mount to return to the Manchester United squad as they prepare to face Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League.

Manchester United returned to football after a two-week break by defeating Newport County 4-2 in the FA Cup, although they made the tie harder than it should have been for themselves.

United last played Wolves on the opening day of the season, where a header from Raphaël Varane saw the club collect all three points at Old Trafford.

Erik ten Hag confirmed on Wednesday afternoon that André Onana will be available once again for selection after he returned from AFCON due to Cameroon’s Round of 16 exit against Nigeria.

He also stated that he thinks it is too soon for Mason Mount to return, who has been nursing a calf problem since mid-November: “Mason Mount is too soon, but Andre Onana will return.”

Elsewhere, two players, Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw, are making their Premier League comeback in defense, marking their first appearances this year against Newport. Lisandro Martínez is also fit, and Raphaël Varane and Jonny Evans have returned to the field.

Victor Lindelöf, recovering from a minor surgery, is back in training with an uncertain fitness status. Aaron Wan-Bissaka missed the FA Cup due to “precaution”, with no official update since.

Casemiro is set to return to the Premier League after being absent since early November, making a comeback during the FA Cup fixture.

Marcus Rashford is back in the squad for the Wolves match after missing the Newport County game due to illness/disciplinary action. Rasmus Højlund is in good form, with four goal involvements in his last four appearances.

For Wolves, Pablo Sarabia may step in for Jean-Ricner Bellegarde if he can demonstrate his fitness, and Joao Gomes is available after serving his suspension from the FA Cup match against Brentford.

Gary O’Neil will be without either Hwang Hee-chan or Boubacar Traore due to their international commitments with South Korea and Mali, respectively.
