“Embarrassing…” – Man United statistic vs Spurs emerges and fans are saying the same thing

Manchester United drew 2-2 against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday but many supporters were disappointed by the overall performance of the team.

Erik ten Hag’s side scored two brilliant goals in the first half of the match but struggled to take any kind of control of the game throughout.

Rasmus Højlund was able to excel despite this. His finish for the opener was clinical and thunderous for only a half-chance in reality.

He also assisted Marcus Rashford’s goal following a well-timed one-two. Whilst he got a goal and assist, the pattern of little service continued.

In fact, a bizarre statistic from the game has emerged, and it shows the difficulties that Højlund continues to face even when he is able to get on the scoresheet once again.

André Onana completed two passes to the centre-forward, which was the second-most of any United player.

Bruno Fernandes was the only player to complete more passes to Højlund, with three in total. Five others – Marcus Rashford, Kobbie Mainoo, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Diogo Dalot and Jonny Evans – completed just one pass to the Danish forward. Meanwhile, the rest of the team did not complete a pass to the 20-year-old.

Onana completing the second-most passes to the centre-forward is an example of the lack of control United had in the game. And it’s become a pattern this term which has been one reason behind Højlund’s difficulties so far.

Many United supporters described the statistic as ’embarrassing’ that Onana was so high up on the list.

“Too embarrassing if Højlund plays for Man City or Liverpool, he’d be banging 2+ goals every match,” one fan wrote.

Another said: “Pathetic this, can’t believe some people blame our top scorer when he gets service like this.”

A third added: “Just embarrassing.. Why is Onana so high up?”
