Cristiano Ronaldo warns Man United that they “cannot depend” on four players
Cristiano Ronaldo has warned Manchester United that they “cannot only depend” on four current players in the team.
Cristiano Ronaldo, 39, left Manchester United for the second time in 2022 following a dispute with manager Erik ten Hag.
The iconic forward had rejoined the club under Ole Gunnar Solskjær in 2021, netting 18 Premier League goals in his first season back. However, Solskjær was dismissed midway through that campaign.
Ten Hag took over at the beginning of the next season, and within a few months, Ronaldo’s contract was terminated following a surprising TV interview with Piers Morgan.
Ronaldo says Man United cannot depend on talents
United have an impressive crop of young talent right now. The standouts from last season were Kobbie Mainoo, Rasmus Højlund and Alejandro Garnacho. While Amad Diallo is another who looks set to become a key figure in the team.
Despite these talents, as well as other impressive youth players on the verge of the first-team squad, Ronaldo does not believe that the club can only depend on these players, suggesting that more experience is needed.
“I believe that the future will be bright; I believe [that],” the Al Nassr star said on his YouTube channel.
“But they don’t depend only on the talents; it’s more than that. It’s all [of the] club. Not only the players, the club. Everything as a unit, [to be] united.
“They have to rebuild from the bottom; if not, they cannot compete; it’s really impossible.
“They can do good things. Yes, they can win the Carabao [Cup], but I mean the Champions League, Europa League, or Premier League… difficult.
“It’s my opinion, I wish that I am wrong… I wish. But it will be difficult.”
Steps in the right direction
Thankfully, it seems that the club are taking those steps in the right direction under Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s leadership.
The hierarchy has improved significantly, and many supporters see INEOS’ first summer transfer window as a success.
More time and changes are needed for things to improve to the point where United can consistently challenge for major honours.
