Cristiano Ronaldo slams Erik ten Hag for recent Man United comments – “You cannot say that”
Cristiano Ronaldo has slammed Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag for some recent comments that he disagrees with.
Ronaldo, 39, departed United for the second time in 2022 after a feud with manager Erik ten Hag.
The legendary striker was re-signed by the club under Ole Gunnar Solskjær in 2021. He scored 18 Premier League goals in his first season back, but Solskjær was sacked midway through the campaign.
Ten Hag joined the club at the start of the following season, and it was only a matter of months before Ronaldo’s contract was ripped up.
Ronaldo slams Erik ten Hag comments
Ronaldo has spoken about Ten Hag for the first time since his interview with Piers Morgan in 2022, where he claimed that he did not respect the Dutchman.
The former United star criticised Ten Hag for downplaying the club’s ability to fight for major trophies in the near future.
“The coach says they cannot compete to win the League and Champions League,” began Ronaldo while talking on Rio Ferdinand’s podcast.
“[As] Manchester United coach, you cannot say that you are not going to fight to win the League or Champions League.
“You have to be, to mentally say, listen, maybe we don’t have that potential, but I cannot say that. We’re going to try. You have to try.”
Where Ten Hag will be focusing
Ultimately, it is correct that United should never rule out the possibility of winning the big trophies. We have seen stranger things happen, and standards have slipped too much in recent years.
However, the United manager’s job right now should be focusing on game-to-game and improving the way that the team plays.
There is no point in playing a good game in the media if these improvements are not made, and that’s precisely what INEOS want to see in the coming weeks after a poor start to the season.
Ten Hag has several important games coming up, where results and performances will be needed. That starts with an away trip to Southampton in the Premier League on the weekend.
