Chelsea have set their price for Mason Mount as Manchester United open talks for a deal for the England midfielder.

Mount, 24, is high on United’s radar for the upcoming transfer window as Erik ten Hag looks to bolster the midfield depth at Old Trafford.

The Chelsea academy product has been at the Stamford Bridge club since he was six years of age. An increasingly-likely exit has come to surprise of many.

Latest reports from Jacob Steinberg of The Guardian have claimed that The Reds have opened talks with Chelsea over a deal for the player after agreeing personal terms with Mount recently.

United are said to be confident of completing a deal and making Mount the first signing of the summer for Erik ten Hag.

The report goes onto mention that United hope to pay between £50-60 million for Chelsea’s no.19 but that The Blues are likely to ask for at least £70 million plus add-ons.

Mount has just came off the back of his worst season in West London, scoring just three goals and registering six assists in a campaign where Chelsea finished 12th in the Premier League.

However, the playmaker had won the club’s Player of the Year award back-to-back in the season’s prior and Ten Hag will be hoping to rejuvenate his form like he has done for Marcus Rashford at Old Trafford.

United’s no.10 has scored 30 goals this term after getting just five last season under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ralf Rangnick.

The prior report also went on to mention that Ten Hag wants more athleticism in midfield and believes that Mount’s pressing, versatility and intelligence would make him an ideal fit as a No.8 in his team.

Christian Eriksen currently plays in that role for United. The Danish international has scored just twice this season but has assisted 10 times.
