Bruno Fernandes produced another captain’s performance as Manchester United defeated Sheffield United 4-2 in the Premier League.

After 55 minutes, Manchester United fans were looking at a potentially horrible result, with Sheffield United 2-1 up at Old Trafford and the fixture looking bleak.

However, Bruno Fernandes‘ brilliance saw the club captain score two goals and assist Rasmus Højlund as United came back to defeat the Blades 4-2 on the night and apply pressure for the European positions.

Although Fernandes stole the headlines, the Portuguese international took his time out to praise another one of United’s best players, Kobbie Mainoo, for his “different class” performance.

Fernandes has shown in the last month that he has been captain material, and this was shown once again with a message he gave to debutant Ethan Wheatley, who came on with nine minutes to play.

“Bruno pulled me to the side and told me I’ve got nine minutes to try to get you a goal.” the teenager told club reporters at full-time.

Although Wheatley did not get his goal, he reached a historic milestone by becoming the 250th academy player to make their first-team debut for United.

“It’s an honour to make my debut and that number 250,” Wheatley added. “There were a bit of nerves, but as soon as I was stripped and ready to go, I was excited. It’s not been a bad 24 hours.”
