According to reports, Rasmus Højlund had a falling out with Bruno Fernandes and Diogo Dalot earlier on in Manchester United’s season.

Manchester United have not had a harmonious season. Poor results mixed with a partial ownership change have led to huge uncertainty under and over Erik ten Hag this campaign, and it has not been a pretty sight.

Throughout Ten Hag’s time at United so far, there have been multiple personnel issues, ranging from his problems with Cristiano Ronaldo and Jadon Sancho to the developing situation surrounding Mason Greenwood.

However, now it has come to light that there was another issue within the squad earlier this season involving Bruno Fernandes, Diogo Dalot, and Ramsus Højlund.

What happened

According to a report from Mail+, earlier this season, Højlund filed a complaint against Fernandes that the club captain wasn’t passing to him enough. Højlund had gone through a serious goal drought domestically.

Reportedly, Højlund then fell out with right-back Dalot during a 4-3 Champions League loss vs FC Copenhagen in November after Lukas Lerager scored a late equaliser, and Fernandes sided with Dalot.

That period of time was very unsettling for United, and Højlund had scored two goals that game against his former club.

How United solved the issue

When Højlund raised his concerns with the coaches, he was reportedly told to address them directly with Dalot rather than having the disagreement mediated through the coaches themselves.

It was only when they put it behind them that Fernandes also made his peace with Højlund, and harmony was restored within the team.

Bruno Fernandes, for some of his faults, has ultimately been a good captain for UNited during a turbulent time. He continues to be a leader when others around him have backed down and is set to remain in place for the coming seasons.
