Benni McCarthy: Only one manager can replace Erik ten Hag and change Man United’s fortunes

Benni McCarthy has claimed that only one manager can replace Erik ten Hag at Manchester United and change the club’s fortunes.

Manchester United are struggling in 14th place in the Premier League, with mounting calls for Erik ten Hag’s dismissal following a string of poor performances.

United have won just two of their last six games—a 7-0 rout of League One side Barnsley and a 3-0 win over Southampton, the latter saved by André Onana’s crucial penalty stop while the scores were level.

Draws against FC Twente and FC Porto, along with heavy 3-0 home defeats to Liverpool and Tottenham, have cast serious doubt over Ten Hag’s leadership.

A recent draw with Aston Villa has provided him a temporary reprieve, but the pressure remains intense.

Despite widespread speculation that Sir Jim Ratcliffe and the club’s executives would opt to sack Ten Hag after their recent board meeting, reports now suggest that the Dutch manager will remain in charge for now.

McCarthy on managerial issue at Man United

When speaking about the issues United are facing under Ten Hag, the Dutchman’s former attacking coach Benni McCarthy was asked about how things can be fixed.

He suggests that only Pep Guardiola would guarantee a change in fortunes at Old Trafford, and we all know that move is not likely at all. Instead, McCarthy suggests that there is no (other) better man for the job than Ten Hag.

“People are always looking for answers like replacing the coach, but who is better than what they have?” McCarthy questioned on SuperSport.

“Unless Pep [Guradiola] decides to change from Man City to go to United, then maybe you will have a change in fortunes.

“But other than that, mate, I can’t see if there’s better than Ten Hag, man.”
