Anthony Martial receives transfer setback after latest rejection, Man Utd striker approached club
Ligue 1 giants Olympique Lyonnais have reportedly turned down the opportunity to sign Manchester United striker Anthony Martial this summer.
Martial, 28, has had a troubled time at United, frequently finding himself forced onto the injury list and away from the football pitch.
Making just thirteen Premier League appearances for United this season, the Frenchman is once again on the sidelines.
Battling his 21st case of injury since joining the club, Martial’s contract is up in the summer, and it seems unlikely he will ever play for the Red Devils again.
With his future in his own hands, Martial decided to reject approaches from several Turkish SuperLig sides back in January, with the belief that there would be more appealing options down the line.
According to a report from French outlet JeunesFooteux, Martial had hoped that one of those options would be Ligue 1 side Lyon.
Offered the chance to sign Martial upon the end of his contract, Lyon are believed to have turned down the approach from the Man United striker’s camp.
Currently in tenth place in Ligue 1, Lyon have failed to secure European football for the last three seasons, and despite being offered the chance to sign Martial on a free transfer, have decided to look elsewhere in their recruitment.
Despite struggling with injuries throughout his career at United, the former France international has still made 317 appearances for the Red Devils, scoring 90 goals.
In his absence, United have had to rely on the expertise of current #11 Rasmus Hojlund, with the Danish forward scoring on thirteen occasions for the club this season.
