Andre Onana makes Tranzonspor transfer U-turn after Senne Lammens debut with new Man Utd decision

Andre Onana has made a fresh transfer decision at Trabzonspor after Senne Lammens made his Manchester United debut against Sunderland.

Andre Onana left Manchester United at the end of the transfer window after being left out of three Premier League matches. The Cameroonian’s last United game before leaving on loan was the embarrassing Carabao Cup defeat to Grimsby Town.

While United fans remember him for poor shot-stopping, Onana’s time in Turkey has been impressive so far. On his side, Trabzonspor currently sit in second place with 17 points, ahead of Fenerbahçe and Beşiktaş, who were recently managed by José Mourinho and Ole Gunnar Solskjær, respectively.

Onana has conceded five goals in four games, with several impressive performances. However, United fans won’t be missing Onana just yet due to Senne Lammens’ impressive debut against Sunderland before the international break.

The Deadline Day signing looked composed and confident in the United goal, two qualities that haven’t been seen in a Red Devils goalkeeper since David de Gea left the club in 2022. The Belgian now appears to be in line for a start against Liverpool after the international break.

Altay Bayindir was chosen ahead of Onana to start the season, but his return to the bench against Sunderland could see him once again become second-choice.

Onana plans for United return

While many United fans were calling for him to leave the club in the summer, Onana made it clear – before he left on loan – that he was willing to fight for his place at the club, although the Lammens transfer left him with no choice but to leave the club.

However, a fresh update from The Sun has reported that Onana is looking to return to United in the summer, despite inital reports stating that he didn’t want to return after Lammens’ transfer was confirmed. The Cameroonian is planning on playing a part in pre-season before the start of the next campaign.

Onana reportedly feels “more relaxed” in Turkey, with sources close to the player admitting he was struggling in Manchester. He needed to feel appreciated again, and Trabzonspor already appears to be a great move for the 29-year-old.

The Turkish club are already exploring ways of making his transfer permanent at the end of the season after covering his full wage during his loan spell. Onana may be holding out for United, while keeping Trabzonspor as a backup option if he is told to leave Old Trafford permanently.

If Lammens continues his good run of form after the international break, Onana may feel that he could displace Bayindir as second-choice before fighting for the starting role when he is given a chance, although United fans would prefer a permanent departure.

Vitek could fight Onana for United place

While Onana may want to return to Old Trafford, there may be no room for the former Inter Milan goalkeeper if Radek Vitek is rewarded with a promotion after a promising loan spell.

The United Academy graduate joined Bristol City in the Championship on a season-long loan and has already impressed fans with his brilliant shot-stopping. His “wonder” save left many wondering why he wasn’t an option for Amorim this season

Vitek could return to United next season and be ready to fight for his role in the side, especially if Lammens and Bayindir share the starting spot until the end of this season.

If Vitek is trusted to play in the senior side next season, there won’t be room for Onana’s return, unless he is prepared to play as the third-choice goalkeeper.
