Manchester United winger Amad Diallo has refuted the suggestions that he is unhappy on the bench at Old Trafford and explains his approach to every game.

Amad, 21, came on against Liverpool and helped United turn the game around. He scored a last-minute winning goal in extra time to ensure progression to the FA Cup semi-final.

However, the Ivorian’s heroics came not long after a social media change when he deleted all United-related posts from his profiles and later deactivated his accounts on X and Instagram.

Despite later explaining that this was done for Ramadan, some supporters believed that it suggested unhappiness from Amad, who had only played around 60 minutes of football since returning from injury in December.

However, the 21-year-old has now explained the belief that he feels from the manager Erik ten Hag and how he is always prepared to make an impact whenever he’s called upon.

When asked whether it’s been difficult to watch games from the bench, he said: “I train hard every day and waited for my chance. The manager believes in me.

“I am on the bench but every time I am ready to come in and fight. If I score for the team, then I am very happy. He [Ten Hag] gives me a lot of confidence, and I want to continue like this.

“I wait for my chance and, for me, every game is like a Champions League final. Whether I start or I am on the bench, it is important for me to be ready every time.”

Amad was sent off after his celebrations against Liverpool, which many fans are not fussed about, but it does mean that he will miss the next game after the international break against Brentford.

He will be back available for selection against Chelsea the following week.
