Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has praised Antony for his potentially match-winning defensive efforts during United’s 4-3 win against Liverpool.

With the Red Devils trailing 2-1 to Liverpool, United manager Erik ten Hag would introduce Antony, Harry Maguire, Christian Eriksen and Amad Diallo across the second half in a bid to turn the tides.

These subs would end up proving decisive for United, with Amad and Antony both scoring, as United went on to beat their rivals 4-3.

After Victor Lindelof was substituted for Mason Mount in the 106th minute, Antony would spend the second half of extra time helping as part of United’s makeshift backline.

Discussing the impact of Amad and Antony, Fernandes would highlight how despite being brought on to help with the attack, Antony’s efforts at left-back were vital to United’s victory.

“You can see Amad and Antony made a huge difference in the last 15 minutes,” Fernandes would tell MUTV.

“Probably no one’s going to talk about [him], but Antony made a great effort playing as a left back to help us because Victor [Lindelof] was completely over, he couldn’t run anymore, because gave it all for us.”

Following United’s victory over Liverpool, the Red Devils will now go on to face Championship side Coventry in the semifinals of the competition.

The match between the two sides will take place at Wembley Stadium on Saturday, 20 of April.
