Ralf Rangnick’s thoughts on a potential Rúben Amorim replacement at Manchester United have now been revealed.
While most reports suggest that Sir Jim Ratcliffe is happy to stick with Rúben Amorim for now, Manchester United have been linked with several potential replacements, including Gareth Southgate, Xavi and Andoni Iraola.
Omar Berrada and Jason Wilcox must consider options to replace Amorim – even if they are happy with him for now – as United can’t be left without a permanent manager if the former Sporting CP manager decides to leave of his own accord.
Last time United sacked a manager without another lined up, Ralf Rangnick took charge of the club for the second half of the season intending to stay at the club longer, but his managerial performances led to his dismissal.
Rangnick replaced Ole Gunnar Solskjær and had to try to rebuild the club while overhauling the tactics, an almost impossible task for one individual. Before he joined United, he had his say on a current candidate to replace Amorim.
Rangnick is a big fan of Glasner
Rangnick worked with Oliver Glasner at Red Bull Salzburg, where Glasner served as an assistant manager in his early coaching years.
Speaking to Laola1 in 2023, Rangnick said: “For me, Oliver Glasner is currently one of the most exciting coaches – not only in Germany, but in all of Europe. An absolute top coach.”
As Austria manager, Rangnick went on to say: “In my opinion, this is an important approach that we must find here in Austria so that we can give as many of the next Oliver Glasners as possible the opportunity to develop precisely such careers.”
Rangnick – who was proved to be right about many things after he left the club – holds Glasner in high regard, and he could be the man to replace Amorim if his side’s performances force INEOS into an early dismissal.
Crystal Palace’s stance on Glasner revealed
With Glasner heavily linked to United, Crystal Palace’s stance on their manager has now been revealed. Graeme Bailey – via We Are Palace – said: “Oliver Glasner is still Crystal Palace manager, he still has ambitions in South London – but ultimately the club need to match them.
“If Glasner is a top-four quality manager as he looks to be, can Palace keep him? Maybe but it is going to be very difficult.
“Palace would love a new deal now, but it looks like that is a non-starter until the New Year. Palace know Man United are interested; they know others are looking, and that is a concern.
“But as they have seen with their players in recent years, when big clubs are circling, it is hard to fend them off. But Steve Parish has not given up on Glasner being Palace manager beyond this season.”
Glasner could be United’s first choice to replace Amorim, as he plays the same formation with different principles. It could be a simpler transition for the Red Devils than another change of structure to a back four.
