Former Manchester United captain and midfielder, Bryan Robson, has named a current Red Devils star as the highest IQ player in football history.
Manchester United has long been the home of the best footballers in the world, especially since Sir Alex Ferguson turned the Red Devils into the unbelievable side they were in the 1990s and 2000s.
While the standard of footballers in the current side has dropped from the Cristiano Ronaldo’s and Wayne Rooney’s that players under Ferguson, United remain a side with intelligent footballers, especially under Rúben Amorim.
The 3-4-2-1 formation, deployed by Amorim, has created problems for United since they changed to the structure. However, in recent weeks, the players have begun to solve the issues with a very intelligent change.
To stop the midfield being drastically overloaded, Amorim’s wide-centre-backs – Luke Shaw and Leny Yoro – have begun to step into midfield out of possession.
This stops United from losing the midfield battle and allows United to dominate the game, as they did against Chelsea and Brighton, since making the change.
Robson names Casemiro as Highest IQ footballer
Casemiro has been subject to significant criticism since his move from Real Madrid. The Brazilian struggled to play to his high standard under Erik ten Hag, but has seen improvements in recent weeks under Amorim.
While he hasn’t hit the standards that helped him win five Champions League titles, Casemiro looks much closer to the player who United signed to solve their defensive midfield crisis. His turnaround has been exceptional.
In a video with Mail Sport, former United captain Bryan Robson named Casemiro as the Highest IQ footballer in history, as he chose the No.18 for intelligence to build his ‘dream’ footballer, although he pondered at the question initially with a drawn-out “wow” before answering.
Robson also named Andriy Kanchelskis and Roy Keane for speed and strength, respectively, after naming himself for the right foot. Casemiro has been named amongst some of football’s greats, and for good reason.
Casemiro could earn a new contract
Casemiro’s current contract expires at the end of this season, with many expecting the Brazilian to leave Old Trafford on a free transfer.
However, if Casemiro can continue his good run of form, United may reward him with a new contract to stay at the club, even if they sign a new midfielder in the summer.

His football IQ could help a new midfielder settle into life in Manchester. The legendary midfielder could provide guidance for young players coming through, as well as senior players already in the first team.
Casemiro could be a vital asset to Amorim, even if that is more off the pitch than on. United have a big decision to make.
