Why I like…” – Andy Cole reveals why he likes Manchester United star who’s shined under Michael Carrick

Former Manchester United centre-forward Andy Cole has revealed why he likes one of Michael Carrick’s biggest stars.

Manchester United have been much improved since Michael Carrick replaced Darren Fletcher as head coach until the end of the season.

Rúben Amorim seriously struggled to get the best out of his United stars, apart from a certain few, like Ayden Heaven, but Carrick appears to have already changed that.

Patrick Dorgu looked like a new signing against Manchester City and Arsenal. He started as the left-winger and scored two goals, including a goal of the season contender, to help Carrick’s team to six points from two games.

He’s not the only one to improve under Carrick, but some, to be fair, have continued their good form from Amorim’s final days – most notably, Senne Lammens and those who played at AFCON.

Cole reveals why he likes Mbeumo

Bryan Mbeumo started as the central striker against City and Arsenal. The Cameroon international scored the first United goal of both games, proving his importance to Carrick from the very outset.

Former United striker and treble-winner, Andy Cole, told Premier League Productions: “Why I like Mbeumo, he wanted to play to Manchester United.

“That is a big, big plus. You see him out there and he’s desperate to play for Manchester United. He’s playing now, scoring goals, lots of energy. I respect that.

[Matheus] Cunha as well, left out of the team the last two games, but he’s come in and scored the winner.”

Cunha could start going forward

Cunha has started on the bench for both of Carrick’s games, but came on to make a huge impact in both, including his wonder goal against Arsenal to take victory from the jaws of defeat.

He famously prefers to play in the left-half-space rather than on the flank, but could start ahead of Mason Mount while Dorgu is out injured with a hamstring injury.

Luke Shaw will be responsible for holding the width on the left-hand side, but he’s proven he can do this under the guidance of Carrick before, under Ole Gunnar Solsjkær.

He could unlock a new level from Cunha that we haven’t yet seen, or hadn’t before the games against City and Arsenal.
