Sverre Halseth Nypan position, age, player comparison as wonderkid target spotted with Man Utd merchandise

Sverre Halseth Nypan has been spotted holding Manchester United club merchandise amid links between the wonderkid talent and Rúben Amorim’s side.

Manchester United are preparing for their 2025 transfer windows as Rúben Amorim becomes more familiar with his squad at Old Trafford.

So far, the new boss’ best win has come away against bitter rivals Manchester City, as late heroics from Bruno Fernandes and Amad Diallo secured three vital Premier League points.

There is a general acceptance that the club will have to sell some high-profile talents in the coming months if they are to make any significant additions to Amorim’s team, with one such being Marcus Rashford, who the club may accept £40 million bids for this summer.

However, United are still hoping to add as many as five additions to their first team across 2025, with the club linked to new strikers, midfielders and defenders in the last few months.

Who is Sverre Nypan?

Sverre Halseth Nypan has been turning heads for some time now, despite playing in Norway’s Eliteserien and being just 17 years old. His profile gained even more attention this month after he was spotted holding Manchester United merchandise (picture above).

Back in 2021, at just 14, Nypan became the youngest player to feature in the UEFA Youth League, a record previously held by former United academy talent Shola Shoretire, who achieved the feat in 2018. That record has since been broken again in 2024.

Nypan made his Rosenborg debut in November 2022, becoming the youngest player to represent the club at 15 years and 322 days.

Since then, he has established himself as a key figure for Rosenborg, scoring 13 goals and providing 11 assists in 60 appearances for the first team. Nypan is from Norway and has represented his country at U17, U19 and U21 level.

Most of the time, he has been utilised as a number eight in a three-man midfield, although some would suggest his skillset would suit playing slightly higher as a number 10.

Who has Nypan been compared to?

It’s no surprise that Sverre Halseth Nypan, an exciting Norwegian midfield talent known for his elegance on the ball, has drawn comparisons to Arsenal’s Martin Ødegaard.

Ødegaard, formerly of Real Madrid, is widely regarded as one of Norway’s greatest footballing talents in recent years.

“Sverre Nypan is extremely exciting, and I get a bit of the same feeling as when I saw Martin Ødegaard break through as a boy,” Norwegian football expert Jesper Mathisen told TV2 in August 2023.

Mathisen’s praise came after Nypan delivered an impressive performance in a Conference League qualifier against Hearts, where the teenager provided two assists in Rosenborg’s 2-1 victory.
