When Kobbie Mainoo and Luke Shaw will return to Manchester United after Euro 2024 final
Kobbie Mainoo and Luke Shaw reached the final of Euro 2024 with England but fell to defeat against Spain.
Mainoo, 19, was key for the Three Lions throughout the competition, and left-back Shaw came in for the final few games of the tournament.
It was an unfortunate ending for the United players, but many fans are now looking ahead to when they will return to the club.
Of course, Erik ten Hag’s side played their opening pre-season friendly on Monday as they lost 1-0 against Norwegian side Rosenborg.
There were just a handful of first-team players on the trip due to the international competitions this summer.
Staggered returns are expected as those who competed for their countries return from post-tournament holidays, and the England players will be some of the last to return.
Of course, Tom Heaton also was with the England squad during the competition as a training goalkeeper.
After competing in the Berlin final on the 14 July, Mainoo, Shaw and Heaton are entitled to three weeks of holiday before they return to the club.
That lines up with United’s final pre-season game in the United States against Liverpool on the 4th of August. They play in the Community Shield against Manchester City the following weekend.
It is possible that these players do not take the full three weeks off. For example, Shaw only played a part in the latter stages of the tournament and has only just returned to fitness.
However, Mainoo is more likely to be given the full three weeks after a busy debut campaign for United and England.
The young midfielder will likely only appear at Wembley in the Community Shield, while Shaw and Heaton could potentially return to the club beforehand.
However, they would be more likely to start training at Carrington rather than travel to the United States to play in the final game of the tour.
