What Ruben Amorim’s first Manchester United line-up could look like vs Chelsea
Ruben Amorim could be in charge at Manchester United to face Chelsea in the Premier League on the weekend.
Manchester United announced Monday morning that Erik ten Hag has been dismissed following a 2-1 loss to West Ham over the weekend.
United currently sits 14th place in the Premier League and 21st in the Europa League standings following a poor start to the season.
Ruben Amorim is set to become the new manager at Old Trafford, with United officials reportedly set to travel to Lisbon on Tuesday to finalise an agreement with Sporting Lisbon.
Ruud van Nistelrooy is set to take interim charge against Leicester City in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday evening but reports claim that Amorim could be in place for the weekend’s game against Chelsea.
Should that occur, the new manager would not have a long period to prepare for his first game as United boss, but we would likely see changes in the team to face Enzo Maresca’s side.
While it isn’t certain, Amorim will likely try and introduce his 3-4-3 formation immediately, especially considering the struggles United have had in the system Ten Hag utilised.
André Onana would start in goal and the back three is more straight-forward considering the current injuries to Leny Yoro and Harry Maguire.
It is likely that Jonny Evans is alongside Lisandro Martínez and Matthijs de Ligt at the back. Meanwhile, Diogo Dalot and Noussair Mazraoui could start as wingbacks, although it would not be surprising if Amorim began to introduce Harry Amass to the equation once he is settled at the club.
In midfield, the new boss would utilise his former player Manuel Ugarte and would likely pair him with Casemiro. Christian Eriksen has excelled this season but that pairing could fit his system better.
The front three will likely include Bruno Fernandes playing alongside Marcus Rashford, just behind Rasmus Højlund as the lone striker.
Full XI: Onana; Dalot, De Ligt, Evans, Martínez, Mazraoui; Ugarte, Casemiro; B.Fernandes, Rashford, Højlund.
