What Ole Gunnar Solskjær has told those close to him about Man Utd return, “that was the message…”

Ole Gunnar Solskjær has reportedly been firm in his message of help for Manchester United following Rúben Amorim’s sacking.

Ole Gunnar Solskjær has been linked with a possible return to Manchester United following the sacking of Rúben Amorim from his duties as head coach.

Amorim lasted just 14 months at Old Trafford, collecting 15 Premier League wins in 47 games, and after falling out with director of football Jason Wilcox, it was decided that he could not remain in charge of the squad.

It has since emerged that United will not likely appoint a new manager until the end of the season, meaning they are scouring for a caretaker to galvanise the squad and achieve the club’s ambitions of returning to the Champions League.

U18s coach Darren Fletcher will take over the squad for their trip to face Burnley on Wednesday evening, and possibly the tie against Brighton at Old Trafford on the weekend. However, the club are hoping to have a more stable interim in charge by the time they face Manchester City later this month.

Solskjær has sent United a message

One name on the list to take over as interim manager at United is former striker Solskjær, who did the same following Jose Mourinho’s sacking and was eventually awarded the full-time job.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the Norwegian has informed those close to him since Amorim’s departure that he does not care about his salary or contract length; he just wants to help the club stabilise.

“Ole knows everyone in Manchester United and made sure, in the last 24 hours, that he’s ready to take over as an interim manager,” Romano said on YouTube. “As a caretaker manager, he’s ready.

“Ole Gunnar Solskjær told, clearly, people close to him, and that was the message to Manchester United, [that] he’s not about the contract, he’s not about the money, he’s not about six months, six months plus an option, one year and a half, this kind of stuff. He doesn’t care.

“He would love to be back at Man United. He would love to be back and help the club in this difficult moment. So, Ole is ready. Man United are deciding internally, are discussing internally. Let’s see what’s going to happen there. Ole is an option.”

Solskjær would work well in the conditions

The major difference between Amorim’s sacking and those before him was that there is currently still plenty to play for before the season ends, which was not the case after Mourinho or Erik ten Hag.

United are joint 5th on points in the league table and are firmly still in control of their destiny regarding qualifying for the Champions League, with the FA Cup also providing the possibility of silverware.

Solskjær is a manager who would be happy to sign a short-term contract and work with what he’s been given, and has already proven himself to be a manager who players buy into, with some of those, such as Bruno Fernandes, Diogo Dalot, and Harry Maguire, still in the squad.

At the same time, he is known to have a delicate, positive touch with younger players, which would be fantastic for helping the likes of Kobbie Mainoo, Leny Yoro, and Benjamin Šeško rediscover their best form.
