What André Onana told Bryan Mbeumo as Manchester United target ‘accepts’ transfer speculation

André Onana could link up with his Cameroonian teammate Bryan Mbeumo at Manchester United next season as the Reds attempt to sign him.

Manchester United completed the signing of Matheus Cunha on the opening day of the transfer window and quickly shifted their focus to Brentford’s standout forward Bryan Mbeumo.

The 25-year-old showed strong interest in a move to Old Trafford, making it clear to other interested clubs—such as Newcastle and Tottenham Hotspur—that United was his preferred destination.

United’s initial bid, believed to be around £55 million, was promptly turned down by Brentford. Reports suggest the Red Devils are now preparing an improved offer exceeding £60 million.

Despite this, there’s been no confirmation that a second bid has officially been submitted. Meanwhile, Spurs are reportedly looking to hijack the deal, with Thomas Frank aiming to persuade his former player to join him in North London.

What Onana told Mbeumo about United

It has been reported by the Manchester Evening News that Mbeumo still prefers a move to Old Trafford despite the interest from Spurs.

Interestingly, that report added that André Onana has had a role in convincing the Brentford forward of moving to United.

Onana is teammates with Mbeumo at international level and they last spent time together in the Cameroon camp back in March.

The United shot-stopper was spotted speaking to Mbeumo outside Old Trafford after Brentford won 4-3 against the Reds back at the beginning of May and the report has explained that Onana has been advising the forward to join the club.

There has also been uncertainty over Onana’s future but it was added that he is expected to remain at the club for next season.

Mbeumo accepts transfer speculation

Mbeumo joined Brentford as a young man and is now entering his prime years. During this period, he has not yet had to deal with any major speculation around his future.

Now, with United involved, there are stories everyday about the player and he was asked about the situation earlier this week when he attended the F1 in Canada.

Mbeumo explained how he ‘accepts’ the transfer speculation. “It is a bit new for me, I would say! I think it can be the life of a footballer and you need to accept it.

“He (Frank)’s done so much for me. He literally trusted me from the start. I think he developed the team so well. He developed me as a human and a player as well.

“So I can only wish him all the best, and I’m sure he’s going to do well.”
