West Ham make sudden approach for “priority” Manchester United target, Jason Wilcox must respond soon

Manchester United are setting their sights on some of Europe’s brightest talents as they prepare for the upcoming summer transfer window.

Ruben Amorim is eager to strengthen his Manchester United squad before his first full season at the helm, with the club planning several signings while offloading players who are not part of his long-term plans.

However, United are moving away from their previous strategy of splashing large sums on established stars. Under the INEOS-led regime, the focus is now on acquiring younger players with the potential to develop into world-class talents.

The January arrivals of Patrick Chinazaekpere Dorgu and Ayden Heaven reflect this new approach, with a number of similar targets already on the club’s radar.

One of the players United are reportedly “prioritising” is Sunderland starlet Chris Rigg, who is regarded as one of the best talents in the Championship.

West Ham sudden approach for “priority” United target

It has recently been claimed that United are prioritising a move for Rigg in the summer over some of the other young midfielders they’re interested in.

However, a fresh report from The Guardian has stated that West Ham are lining up a move for the talented 17-year-old, with talks being held over making an offer in the summer.

Spurs are another club interested in Rigg but this report explains that the Hammers are now in a “strong position” to secure the sought-after prospect.

The report also mentioned that Graham Potter wants to freshen up the options in his midfield at the London Stadium and are looking at Rigg after Angel Gomes rejected a contract offer from them.

Wilcox must respond to West Ham

United have already missed out on Geovany Quenda to Chelsea because of an early approach and hopefully this is not a similar situation.

Jason Wilcox and the recruitment team at Old Trafford might not be able to complete deals at the moment, with the team awaiting the summer budget they will be working with – which depends heavily on exits and potential Champions League qualification.

However, they still can put themselves in the best possible situation to act swiftly once the summer window is open and they can make these moves.

There is simply no point in having this youth-focused transfer approach if you cannot secure some of the most exciting talents available.

Rigg is a player who United clearly rate highly, and those in charge need to make sure that they do not miss out on a great opportunity to sign him.
