New Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Vitor Pereira has sent Manchester United boss Rúben Amorim a fiery warning despite praising the head coach’s talent.

Rúben Amorim is searching for answers as Manchester United’s difficult season hit another low with back-to-back defeats last week.

After a memorable victory over Manchester City, United fell to a narrow 4-3 loss against Tottenham in the Carabao Cup before suffering a humbling 3-0 defeat to Bournemouth at Old Trafford.

These results have left the team sitting 13th in the Premier League, their worst-ever position at Christmas in the competition’s history.

Boxing Day offers a chance for redemption, but it won’t be easy as they travel to face Wolverhampton Wanderers. Wolves, currently 18th, have shown signs of revival under Vítor Pereira, who started his tenure with a commanding 3-0 win over Leicester City.

Pereira sends Amorim a fiery warning ahead of Boxing Day clash

Pereira has only been in the Wolves job for a few days, but their win over Leicester has helped many predict that they will be able to haul themselves out of the relegation zone this season.

In his pre-match press conference, the 56-year-old has fielded questions about his Portuguese compatriot who will face him in the dugout at the Molineux Stadium on 26 December, sending a warning to 39-year-old Amorim that he will try and work out how to undo his system at United.

“No, we never played against each other,” Pereira said. “I’m older than him. I took a lot of time to arrive here [England], because I made maybe bad steps in my career and I missed the opportunity to come sooner.

“AmoriM is the new generation of Portuguese coach with a lot of talent in the communication, tactical talent, strategical talent, and I believe that he will do very good work in the Premier League.

“You can play in 4-3-3 and your 4-3-3 is completely different than my 4-3-3. In my opinion, what’s important is the dynamic of the system.

“When we try to understand the system that they [any team] play, almost all the time they attack in one system and they defend in another system. It means that it’s difficult to say we are working in this system, because after the dynamic will change the system.

“It depends what I want to create, if I want to change something. But the big principles, they are the most important in football, the big principles, the intentions.”

Amorim needs his United side to beat Pereira

Amorim really needs a win from his United team, especially following the 3-0 embarrassment against Bournemouth on the weekend.

United’s low position in the league leaves them open to criticism, and although the Premier League is not the club’s main focus, with the Europa League a much more viable route into the Champions League, they must still earn points.

As it’s the competition the club play in almost every weekend, the side need to start gaining some rhythm, and that begins with consistently positive results and performances.

A win for Wolves on the weekend would see United sit as low as 14th and just six points off the relegation zone. Amorim needs his team to beat Pereira’s.
