Viktor Gyokeres tells Man United the ‘most important’ condition for 2025 transfer, they have a clear advantage
Sporting striker Viktor Gyokeres has told Manchester United the ‘most important’ condition for a transfer in 2025 and they have a clear advantage.
Manchester United’s new head coach Ruben Amorim started his role at Old Trafford this week and will be eager to get going in the Premier League.
The 39-year-old helped turn around Sporting’s fortunes in the Portuguese league, winning two titles and being on their way to a third.
One of his key players since the start of last season has been former Coventry City striker Viktor Gyokeres, who has already scored 23 goals so far this season.
Of course, now that Amorim has made the move to United, there have inevitably been links about some of his former players, including Gyokeres, joining him next summer.
United’s new boss has already confirmed that he will not be raiding his former club in January but holds no promises for the summer window.
Gyokeres has a close relationship with Amorim and many are hoping that this could be an influential factor in his decision making when the season finishes.
“It’s very sad that he’s leaving, but of course we understand his decision,” Gyokeres told Fotbollskanalen.
“He has of course meant a lot [to me] considering that he gave me that chance and that he made me develop so much. Now we look forward to working with the new coach.”
However, the Swedish international has explained that the ‘most important’ factor in him deciding his next club is the guarantee of a key role in the team.
Asked about his decision-making process, Gyokeres said: “That you get an important role and that you get to play. That’s the most important thing.
“There are other things that also need to be in place, but I’ll take it when it comes.”
Of course, this plays perfectly into United’s hands since Gyokeres will need little convincing about his role under Amorim, who he has already shined under in Portugal.
Further asked about the reports surrounding Amorim and United, the striker added: “He [Amorim] probably has some strikers there already, so we’ll see.
“No, he hasn’t [asked me to join United]. It’s fun but nothing I attach any importance to because it’s talk and nothing concrete.”
