Ruben Amorim confirms January transfer window plans after Manchester United move
Ruben Amorim has confirmed his January transfer window plans following the announcement of his Manchester United move.
Manchester United have announced Ruben Amorim as their new head coach following the departure of Erik ten Hag from Old Trafford.
Despite a contract extension in the summer, Ten Hag endured a tough season that left United in 14th place in the Premier League and 21st in the Europa League.
This led to his departure on Monday morning, with the club acting swiftly to secure Amorim as his replacement.
Amorim will manage his first match after the November international break, facing Ipswich Town. Ruud van Nistelrooy will remain in interim charge until then.
Following Sporting’s 5-1 win against C.F. Estrela da Amadora on Friday evening, Amorim addressed the press for the first time since the announcement.
While he did not give away many details of his plans at Old Trafford, the 39-year-old did confirm that he will not be purchasing any players from Sporting in the January transfer window.
“Gyokeres cost £100 million… it’s very complicated. I’m not going to come for any Sporting player in January,” explained Amorim.
“These years at Sporting have been the best years of my life. Everyone knows how much I loved it here. But it’s not my farewell yet.”
Ten Hag was regularly questioned for his signings from the Eredivisie and Ajax during his time at United. But Amorim will be making some changes when he joins.
The manager explained that it was a non-negotiable that his coaching staff joined him in his new club. Emanuel Ferro, Adelio Candido, and Carlos Fernandes will be among those coming to United.
“I’m going to take my coaching staff with me. We’ve been together since Casa Pia. It was one of the conditions,” he added.
