Viktor Gyökeres informs Rúben Amorim of Manchester United transfer decision as club eyeing “incredible” £121 double swoop

Manchester United are reportedly back in the race for Viktor Gyökeres this summer as Rúben Amorim pushes for the club to secure a spectacular £121 million double deal.

Manchester United’s ongoing lack of a consistent goal scorer continues to undermine their progress and remains a top priority to address this summer.

Marcus Rashford and Bruno Fernandes have been the only players to regularly contribute in front of goal, with Rashford scoring 30 times in the 2022/23 season.

However, with Rashford expected to leave after his loan at Aston Villa and Fernandes now deployed in a deeper midfield role under Rúben Amorim, the squad’s attacking depth looks increasingly fragile.

Rasmus Højlund has shown encouraging signs but is still raw and not yet ready to lead the line consistently. Joshua Zirkzee, meanwhile, appears more comfortable playing in support of a traditional striker rather than as the central figure in attack.

With the transfer window fast approaching, United are actively working to strengthen their front line — and reports suggest Liam Delap is among the club’s top targets.

United back in the mix for Gyökeres this summer

Although 22-year-old Delap has been touted as the club’s top choice this summer, a fresh report has detailed that United are now looking to rival Arsenal for Sporting and Sweden star Victor Gyökeres.

The goal machine striker is a player Amorim knows well. Gyökeres netted a stunning 66 goals in 68 matches under the United head coach while he was at Sporting, and according to talkSPORT, Amorim is now pushing for a reunion.

Gyökeres is a firm target for Arsenal amid their need for a new striker, and is available for £58.5 million this summer, £25 million below his release clause.

According to talkSPORT, United want to complete deals for both Matheus Cunha and Victor Gyökeres this summer, which would cost the club around £121 million to complete, which could be an “incredible” double signing for United.

What Gyökeres told Amorim about Old Trafford transfer

However, if United are to pull off a move for Gyökeres this summer amid Arsenal’s intense interest in him, they must make sure they win the Europa League final on Wednesday.

According to The Telegraph, the 26-year-old has held one-on-one talks with Amorim about a potential move to Old Trafford. He has reportedly informed the head coach that he has decided he will only consider a move to United this summer if the club are in the Champions League.

The only way United can join Europe’s elite next summer is if they defeat Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League final.

Winning said competition would hand United their third trophy in three seasons, secure them Champions League football for next season, and, when prize money and matchday revenue are considered, give them around £85 million in additional funding.
