National team reverse decision on Man United defender following lengthy talks
Sweden manager Jon Dahl Tomasson has reversed his decision on Manchester United’s Victor Lindelöf following lengthy talks about his national future.
Victor Lindelöf has been captain of the Sweden national team since August 2021, but there has been big speculation surrounding his future as the leader of that squad with the Manchester United player falling in the pecking order under Erik ten Hag.
Jon Dahl Tomasson, Sweden’s new manager, explained that as he was new, he was going to talk to the whole squad and make his captaincy decision from there, throwing Lindelöf’s current role into major doubt.

However, Lindelöf has seen a resurgence in recent weeks, covering at left-back and centre-back due to injuries. Although Tomasson announced last week that he had decided on who the captain would be, he refused to announce it to the public.
“I have decided. But the unfortunate answer is that I will not tell you yet. The players should know first. It’s the right way to do things,” he said last week when asked about the Sweden captain.
“I’m a bit sad that I can’t give you the answer. But I met Lindelöf in England, and we had a very good conversation. We talked about many things.”
And now, as quoted by Aftonbladet, the manager has said it was “an easy choice” to make that Lindelöf will resume his role as the national team captain.
Sweden are set to take on Portugal away from home on Thursday, 21 March, before they host Albania on Monday, 25 March.
