A Manchester United loanee has been praised for his impressive performances after his tough opening game for his new club.
While Manchester United have been dreadful on the pitch this season, the off-pitch action has been brilliant, and a step in the right direction compared to recent years.
The transfer business coming into the club – conducted by new Director of Football, Jason Wilcox – has already proven to be impressive. Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Šeško have been the glimmer of hope in a dreadful start for Rúben Amorim.
As well as the incomings, the outgoings were also a big positive from the summer action. United managed to move on the majority of the “Bomb Squad”, with Tyrell Malacia unlucky to miss out on a Deadline Day move to Elche.
Several high-wage players – Alejandro Garnacho, Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho – were moved on, with an eye to a permanent move if the original deal was a loan. Rasmus Hojlund also found a good move that suits both the player and United.
Jonny Evans – the newly appointed Loan Manager – also found promising loan moves for exciting academy talents, who could affect the first team in future years if they develop well away from Old Trafford.
Amass praised by new manager
Harry Amass was loaned to Sheffield Wednesday late in the transfer window, in a deal completely covered by United due to Wednesday’s transfer restrictions. Henrik Pedersen – the Wednesday manager – has praised Amass, despite the United loanee scoring an own goal just six minutes into his debut.
“I see a young man who is growing a lot right now,” said Pedersen to The Star. “I see a young man who, mentally, is going to be stronger and stronger.
“I also see a young man who values the defensive stuff as much as the offensive stuff. This is what he has to do when, one day, he goes back again and wants to take the next level.
“How he has played defensively in the last two games, it is very strong for Harry. Very strong. Today, compared to last week [vs Portsmouth], he also brought more offensively and that means his running capacity is starting to increase, so not only is he working hard defensively, he can also start to work more offensively. He is a young man [going] in the right direction.”
Should United have kept Harry Amass this season?
Amass made his United debut towards the end of last season, impressing many with his tenacity without the ball and creativity with it. However, Diego Leon was chosen ahead of him for pre-season, leaving Amass looking for a loan move.

With Dorgu’s poor start to the season, some fans have argued that United should have kept Amass at the club, as it seems that Leon isn’t ready for first-team football just yet.
However, Amass will benefit massively from his spell on loan, especially considering his physical game is his biggest weakness. A year in the EFL will do Amass the world of good.
Leon may also need a loan move, but spending a year at United was necessary after moving halfway across the world at just 18 years old. Sending him immediately on loan wouldn’t have been right from United’s side.
